We are seeking a Program Instructor for our Roseville Achievement Center, which serves which serves adults (ages 18 and above) with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Roseville area.

Under the general direction of the Assistant Director and Program Supervisors, the Program Instructor will assist clients with developmental disabilities to develop basic skills on an individual or small group basis and do related work as required.

The person in this position must possess a great deal of empathy; must exercise careful judgment while giving individualized attention to clients in the areas of personal growth and development. This person must also provide a learning environment focused on specific subjects in a small group setting that allows for individual differences and promotes respect for the value and dignity of each client.

Essential Functions:

  1. Maintain assigned client files accurately by following the client case file checklist.
  2. Prepare assigned clients’ ISPs.
  3. Communicate with the Program Aides to obtain a detailed assessment of clients for ISPs and 6-month progress reports.
  4. Instruct classes in areas such as art, cooking, exercise, shopping, money skills, grooming, mobility training, and other activities.
  5. Instruct and implement activities in independent-living skills including personal hygiene, public transportation, homemaking, job-seeking skills, communication skills, motor development, and leisure-time activities.
  6. Take clients to public places for learning and entertaining experiences such as the public library, food and personal shopping facilities, and sporting events.
  7. Transport clients in company vehicles or personal vehicles to planned activities.
  8. Help clients to increase their communication skills by using words or signs that are appropriate to the client’s specific needs in order to engage them in program activities.
  9. Assess client strengths/challenges, but not limited to behavior shaping.
  10. Assist clients physically on outings as well as in the center to enable their participation in the community and program activities including pushing wheelchairs and assisting with personal hygiene, which may include lifting, carrying, bending, and supporting the weight of the clients when needed.
  11. Maintain class activities independent of other classes by creating and implementing a monthly calendar of activities.
  12. Work cooperatively with all program staff to ensure client ISP goals are achieved.
  13. Document clients’ daily activities.
  14. Work cooperatively with all program staff to ensure a collaborative, collegial work environment.
  15. Attend weekly staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  16. Maintain equipment.
  17. Maintain confidentiality.
  18. Perform other duties as required by the Assistant Director or designated representatives.
  19. Must read, speak, write and comprehend English at a 12th-grade level.
  20. Function as a collaborative member of the department team and the organization as a whole.
  21. Adhere to The Arc of Placer County Code of Ethics adopted March 2004.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
  2. Must be able to physically assist clients on outings and in the center including pushing wheelchairs, assisting people with walkers, pushing, bending and lifting as needed.

Knowledge, Skill, and Experience

High school graduate. Work experience in the field of developmental disabilities is preferred. Must have good social skills and be able to teach the importance of good grooming, clear communication, and functional living skills. Valid CA Driver’s License and auto insurance. CPR and First Aid certification (training provided).

Classification

Regular Full-time. Non-exempt.

Compensation

$14.00/hr with benefits (medical, dental, vision, life, retirement)
Mon-Fri 8:30-3:30 with adjusted hours on Friday for staff meetings
